    I think we all can relate to that moment when we go to our closet and it suddenly occurs to us. Hey all of my clothing looks exactly the same. It's great having a specific style but sometimes it get you into a box really quick. I have no desire to change my style however I can admit that I could use a shake up . So this week I and whoever will be joining me will commit to restyle every look.  So here we go :

HOTD: When all else fails keep it classic

    Hey Dolls & Dukes it's been awhile. I'm sad to feel that nip in the air summer will but over soon; but on the bright side it will soon be time to pull out the furs. So it's time for another hair of the day. I know We're all familiar with those days when nothing  you do to your hair turns out right. Even better than that your hair doesn't even look like it belongs to you. Well when this happens I trust in my good 'ol friend the snood.

   You know the beauty about the snood is that it can hide a multitude of sins. You can dress it up, get creative and some pearls or skull studs. Dress it down , use it just for a bun cover. The point is they are alot more versatile then one may think. You can even tie your fav scarf as a snood. Basically they're just yet another hat for a vintage girl. Here a few of my favorite snood looks to give you some inspiration!

   Okay so we haven't done one of these for awhile , but when I saw this Swimsuit I had to bring back the hot buys of the day. It's from site Dress Lilly and I have to so this would be amazing for next year's Viva's pool party, or even any awesome indoor pool parties or events you my do this winter! Who says you can't look hot while it's hot?

    Well I think everyone can agree that summer has officially made her presence known. If you're like me and live for the heat, then this means all kinds of steamy, thrilling and wet fun. Most especially LA PLAYA otherwise known as THE BEACH!  

   

   I get asked a lot can you be fashionable at the pool or beach...and the question is yes. There's no reason to suddenly look like a completely different person. In addition to vintage and reproduction, with both fashion and pop culture's sudden demand for nostalgia. It's slowly becoming easier to find retro inspired fashions and good.  In regards to swimwear vintage inspired styles have been booming in popularity the past couple of years. Especially in regards to high waist styles, 60's mod, etc...

Rockabilly Techies Unite! Allons-y!

     Hello Darlings I've missed everyone, I know it's been awhile I've been having some set backs with my lupus but that's just the day in the life of a luppie warrior. Other than that of gotten a good bit of painting done; as those of you know that follow me on Instagram. I'll soon be opening up my online store on Facebook where you can purchase my watercolors, and sketches. Anyway that's enough about me how are all of you?

     Well today is for all my fellow Techies and geeks but I suspect everyone can find something to get excited over about this by now. I'm sure if you haven't already you will soon be hearing about Google's physical web. Its been around for awhile now but i recently went to a place that is a supporter. Which got my attention.

     The concept is is really cool. Which is to make the web/internet more interactive no matter what device or application you find yourself using.  So how we find find ourselves scanning all these URLs with our tablets and phones; only to be disappointed most of the time. This won't happen now. The physical web will turn this into a experience.
    You'll be able to apply it to your practical life. Call AARP more effecently, keep in touch with the neighborhood board. Find out where the yard sales are. Or in our case imagine going to your favourite vintage and consignment boutique. You scan in and next thin you know you get a complete experience. Music, maybe you can get the history of the item you're looking at? Maybe you can even try on you clothes on the app... It's all up to the imagination. But one things for sure it's sure to be exciting!

Its Not Just Any Friday It's Good Friday !

Hola Dolls and Dukes and happy Good Friday too you all, I hope it was a good one. Already the year is counting down way too fast and we find ourselves at Easter. I feel like yesterday was just new years so if you are anything like me; I'm willing to bet that you were not prepared (meaning very nearly forgot). And had to scramble to get yourself together this morning, but hey I'm a girl we're made to handle last minute situations.   
We all know what it's like when you have to pull something good out of your hat last minute. Me! I'm usually the type the starts panicking but ive been working on  that. (After all it will be what it will be) So for my look of the day I kept it simple with my black dita dress (search for the review in the reviews section) but; I focused all the attention on my 1950s vintage cocktail hat.

LOTD:



Hair:

1. Separate your bang section and pin it up

2. Brush the rest of your hair back, and take some pomade to smooth down flyaways. I like to use Suavecito pomade (https://www.suavecitopomade.com/collections/womens-grooming/hair). Gather hair into a low tail

3. Take out your bang and smooth the front with a bit of pomade after some light teasing. Starting at the tips roll up towards your face.  Pin it with the staple bobbypins, then do your adjustments. 

4. Grab your hat Dolls. Mine is a 1950s  vintage cocktail halfhat. (http://www.ebay.com/usr/wellworn2012?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 ) The flaps of A halfhat are usually always placed at each ear. If you do that you'll almost always know you're hat is perfect (my great aunt taught me that one).

Imitated Not Duplicated

If you are a online shopper like me than you have seen countless companies that advertise endlessly about these celebrity inspired dresses. I don't know about you but I get really curious, not that i'm dying to look like someone else. However do these dresses really look that close to the original, and what is the quality even like. Well the only reason I even got interested to be honest was because of an ad I saw about 4-5 months ago from a company that makes dresses Dita Von Tease Dresses. Tatyana.com is an upscale vintage inspired brand. They have boutiques all over and the one in New york is great its how I first heard of them.So without further ado.

Well I must say the hardest thing I've ever done was put my picture next to Dita Von Tease lol. Hear are my thoughts on the dress. To be brutely it's clearly not a dior however it was a great dress. It hugs your curves amazingly and makes you feel fabulous. I paired it with a dior belt that I had already in case anyone particularly likes the belt. As far as construction no loose threads, the fabric was nice and thick. But I have to be honest this wasn't a 200 dollar dress. Though I liked it I think I will search for another company for my next Dita dress, which I am currently already looking.

Red Lips and a Pillbox and You Can't Go Wrong : New Hair of The Day

  Well it's that time again for another hair of the day and I had a lot of fun with this one dolls. I have said this on numerous occasions don't be afraid to explore with hats, you will be surprised what they can bring to your looks. They spruce up a plainer dress or even make something old brand new. Don't think that you're the one person in the world that hats do not look good on because that's simply not true. I assure there is a style of hat for everyone and one of the most classic styles that makes everyone look amazing is the holy-grail of hats the pillbox. So lets get started shall we?

Hair of The Day:

Rolled bang with a ponytail

1. You just need 2 Bobby pins. Separate the bang section of your hair. Next after you finish with your pomade/ teasing if your hair requires. Gather the ends of you hair as if you are starting a pincurl,however roll under instead of the normal way. Slip a Bobby pin on either end of your bang then take your fingers and do your tweaking.

2. Smooth a bit of oil into your hands and work it through your hair, be sure to get your ends this will give you shine and prevent frizz. Brush your hair through and gather your hair into a low pony. Take a small section of hair a wrap it around the elastic pinning it with a Bobby pin. 

3. Place your hat on the crown of your head. Use hat pins to pin it in place but of you don't have them you can get away with a good ole Bobby. 

Holiday Party Wardrobe Planning : The Look For less

  The holiday season can be simutaniusly a source of unimaginable stress as well as a great chance to reflect on what's important, and a chance to connect with family and friends. However it's easy to loose sight of all of this while one has to not only plan holiday gatherings for friends,work family etc... You also countless other expenses planned, unexpected and many quite frankly that should be thrown out and burned. So My Darlings I more than understand the desire to cut back on expenses where you can ; but still want to look and feel as decadent as you have become accustomed.  So to prove to you that it is possible to create amazing holiday looks for less. I've created a vintage office party look for under $100 that can be purchased currently as our first look.

     Even though these peices are inexpensive, they still look as if you could have paid more. That's the trick when going with the LFL ideally you want to mix the higher quality pieces you already own with the cheaper ones that immediately gives you a chicer look. We' ve partially done that by adding the vintage beret (even though this isn't an expensive item it is a good piece ). But if you can't do this you want to pay attention fabrics, heavy the better. Stitching , are they straight and tight. Stretchiness what is the elasticisity like because if its bad after one wear and wash it will be a stretched out mess. And how the piece lays. I know trying things on is a pain but it will do you a world of good.

      Okay this is a quick " I woke up like this " look of the day.  To be honest it's been on Instagram (@borntoolatefashionablyspeaking) for a bit but I've been running around like crazy with doc appointments. And I have gotten the messages asking for updates on my lupus and I promise to do a post about it soon, maybe even a video. However enough of that lets get down to some fashion Dolls!

Look of the Day: Audrey H.
The Dress:
I'm wearing is late 1950's vintage perasico A-line dress. It has sheer sleeves and sheer ascents on the shoulders. As well as floweral embroidery also done in black. I wore a black crinoline slip under the dress so the dress could have the more high fashion look.  Originally the dress had a belt but it was lost so I acquired it without one although I actually like the way this dress in particular looks in belted since its still very flattering so I went without

Accessories:
I'd had a Audrey musical movie fest  at the time I wore this dress. I'm sure you know how that feels we vintage Dolls get so caught up in our favorite classic sirens that we cant help but want to steal their looks a bit. In this case I wanted to capture Mrs Hepburn's  spirit more so than try to clone a look . For earrings I wore a simple pair of vintage Pearl studs. Since the accents on the dress where pretty striking I left the jewelry there and let the dress speak for itself.  For shoes I wore a pair of black flat maryjanes by Comfy Sole.

 

 

Hair:
As a pop of colour I wore a pink blushed lily hair flower. For the actual style I kept it naturally curly. I used frankesence & mryth oil and mixed it with doves new curl pomade to give me shine and counteract frizz. I parted my hair to the side and did a simple roll.  On the opposite side I placed the flower arranging it so it laid flat to my head.

Fashion News Darlings: It's Expo time!

 

       Well Doll's and Dukes I am right now as I type extremely, extremely depressed, however for all my west coast Darlings it looks like things will work out just perfectly for you. I guess you want to know what I'm talking about. Well for the few Rockabellas and Pinups that don't know The Original Vintage Fashion Expo is coming up this weekend and tickets are still on sale.

   

           This is one of the best Vintage Expos and has been running for over twenty years. You can find anything here that a vintage collecter can dream up and more. From period pieces to items from decades such as as the twenties or even eighties. This year is expected to be great with venders like The Cat's Meow , Blue Moon Antiques and Straight 8 Vintage. But we're not done yet Dolls and Dukes because the mother load this year is Dita Von Tease, who will be sighing copies of her books. I don't about you but for all my fellow east coast Dolls I sure am sad to miss this one.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Born Too Late...Welcomes: Deaths Dark Veil !

   

     Many of you guys know that I'm also a author, artist and singer so I appreciate art in all its forms. I especially of handcrafted items, the idea that someone put something of themselves into this item and you won't see thirty other people walking around with it. Having a mother that makes and sells jewelry Im immensely pleased that handcrafted wares are becoming increasing popular especially in the alternative fashion community. Question 1:

 Jose thanks for taking the time out to hang with us for a while. Why don’t we start with telling us

about yourself, how you got started, and about your creative processes?

Answer:

Hi, guys, you're welcome. My name is Jose. I'm 26 and I live in Los Angeles. I actually got pulled into the jewelry "business" when I was around 18 back when MySpace was in. I started selling jewelry and hair bows on that website, constantly promoting and got over 15,000 friends. I think I did that for almost 2 years but then I stopped. It wasn't until recently (a year ago) that I decided to open a etsy account but I didn't have a product in mind. Then I decided to sell pillar candles with my own design. Six months later I got inspired to make jewelry after I happened to accidentally open a box with a bunch of old accessories. And here I am now lol 

My creative process is pretty basic. To be honest I just have all these ideas from a lot of different styles I like. Kind of goth, day of the dead, ect... I think of something, I quickly sketch it on paper to get an idea of what it will look like and then I make it. 

 

Question 2:

I’ve been admiring you on Instagram for a while now, I love the edge that a lot of jewelry has. Who would you say your ideal customer is?

Answer:

I don't think I would have an ideal customer. I think I have different styles that a lot of different people may like. Like I said the goth style with velvet brooches I made and the felt day of the dead roses. They're two completely different styles.

 

 

Question 3:

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time in regards to your jewelry line?

Answer:

In five years I see myself with my own shop. Only time will tell.

 

Question 4:

What do you use for inspiration?

Answer:

I don't try to force inspiration. I can get inspired by anything, really. But it doesn't happen everyday. Sometimes I do get inspired by seeing something really beautiful. For example, I love to paint, but I haven't done it in over a year because I haven't felt inspired to do so. And I am not one to force it. 

 

Question 5:

What does your perfectly dressed woman look like?

 Answer:

I can't choose. Too many beautiful outfits to choose from.

 

 

 

Question 6:

What are your personal definitions and difference between style and fashion?

Answer:

To me, style is something you have and fashion is something you buy. 

 

Question 7:

Do you have any final words that you’d like to leave the Born too late… Dolls and Dukes with?

Answer:

I guess I would like to say if you love to do something, do it. My store is very tiny but I will not give up on it. Just keep trying and never give up. Even when you feel like it won't go anywhere. No matter what, don't give up.

Come Shopping With Me

     I often get asked "what exactly does a shopping trip with you look like?" Well sadly on my recent shopping trip I forgot to turn on the video camera but, I think I did the next best thing. So take a second get some coffee and a sweet (no worries I'll be he Darling) and join me for a good ole fashioned show and tell.

     Shopping is hard work on any day, especially when you're a pinup doll and trolling through the vintage and consignment store isles. You need to be prepared to 1. take the complete day and 2. go to at least three stores minium. I'll tell you right now most of your time will be spent talking to the friends you've made out of the store associates' (which is always smart) and yanking through endless racks for what will seem like a lifetime. But its all worth.

     Before you walk into the store to prevent frustration and a full on tantrum. It's important to decide what your going for before you step foot in the store. Also it's good to keep in mind what's already in your closet if that's something you need to be mindful of. Something to think about, these pieces aren't just another cool outfit they're also art in and of themselves. As a collector myself, I encourage you to consider doing likewise. It will give you a new found respect for these historical artifacts. But if space is an issue or let's say you're there for a skirt or office suit I recommend downloading Stylicious.  A closet organizing app on google play store which allows you to take pictures of your wardrobe  allowing you to take it with you and simplifying planning outfits during the week.

 This app is a lifesaver while you're looking through the isles you can keep your eyes open, and things you may normally not pick up try. Open up your app and go through your wardrobe (see the possibilities!). You'll know if you are buying yet another too similar style and cut dress and save yourself the trouble and so-on.

          For this particular shopping trip my plan was to go out in search of tops. I was really looking for knits not being a fan of button up tops but I surprised myself and found a few. However like I said earlier sometimes you hit the mother load and for me this was a really ,really good haul. I ended up getting some of everything, most to wear and a few to add to my collection.
