HOTD/ Review: Joie And The Battle Against The Frizz!

So I'm sure many of you can understand the ever going fight against frizzy hair. Lol noone probably knows this more than me, it's like my hair frizzes up just to piss me off. We all have our personal hard earned routines. Me included that consists of  wash twice a week , hair mask, serums, blah-blah-blah. But the second I touch a towel to my head and it doesn't matter what it's made of , whoosh! So I went to air drying which is a major gamble in and of itself. Which leaves us finally to this review/ hair of the day.  Finally I've got a good routine down that works for my hair , especially with the issues I have dealing with my Lupus. I'm also going to share my favorite products and top 5youtube vloggers that helped me with the journey.  Lastly we're going to try out my first blow-dry! I've always been a no heat doll but clearly that's not working with my frizz. So I have  the vintage model Conair diffuser dryer for curly hair to to try out.
So let's get started Dolls and dukes shall we.

I am a big  believer in natural and do it yourself products. A lot of people don't realize especially if you are a person like me with health issues. But everything you put your body soaks into your skin and blood stream, etc... And with all the unnecessary products that are in basically everything its something to think about. So whatever I don't make myself I make sure to use natural and organic companies.  Its important to say that I'm not a beautician, or expert! I am just Sharing a routine that has has finally worked for me.

   Pre shampoo Treatment

I know this kind of thing usually takes time so I tend to reserve it for weekend washes.  But if you have the time on a regular basis your hair will be the healthier for it.

MAYO PRE-POO TREATMENT:

2tbs olive oil
2tbs coconut oil
Spoonful of mayo
Egg white (1)

After mixing all together separate your hair into four sections. Concentrating on your ends distribute the throughout your hair and leave in  for about 10-30 minutes. Then wash, condition, and dry as usual.

Hot oil treatment

This can be done either as a conditioner or a pre-poo treatment. If you find that your hair gets weighed by oils in a negative way, then I suggest using this as an pre shampoo treatment.  You will get the benefits without the negative effects.

1tbs almond oil
1tbs olive oil
1 the coconut oil

Warm only enough to for it to soak into your hair. You do not want it to actually be hot or you can be seriously burned. Saturate from roots to ends and cover your hair up. Leave in for 5 - 10 min. and continue the rest of your routine.

AFTER SHAMPOO RINSE

Apple cider rinse

In a spray bottle take one part water , and one part apple cider vinegar. Shake up then spray your hair hair down liberally. Put on a shower cap and let sit for 5-10 minutes then rinse and condition as usual.

HOTD: When all else fails keep it classic

Hey Dolls & Dukes it's been awhile. I'm sad to feel that nip in the air summer will but over soon; but on the bright side it will soon be time to pull out the furs. So it's time for another hair of the day. I know We're all familiar with those days when nothing  you do to your hair turns out right. Even better than that your hair doesn't even look like it belongs to you. Well when this happens I trust in my good 'ol friend the snood.

You know the beauty about the snood is that it can hide a multitude of sins. You can dress it up, get creative and some pearls or skull studs. Dress it down , use it just for a bun cover. The point is they are alot more versatile then one may think. You can even tie your fav scarf as a snood. Basically they're just yet another hat for a vintage girl. Here a few of my favorite snood looks to give you some inspiration!

So get creative and have fun with those snoods dolls, and share your favorite looks with us to share on our Instagram. As always darlings

No Matter How hard You Try... The Sun Tells All

Unlocking Nature's Secrets

This article is a  response to reader request if you'd like me to answer any questions , discuss a certain topic or etc... simply contact me on Facebook.

In our artificially obsessed world where everyone enjoys a quick fix; if you have any wisdom at all you know how fleeting and artificial those fixes are. You may look nice now but fast-forwards 10-15 years and (insert cheesy thriller music here ___). Yes it will be that scary. I've personally seen before and after results. Greatness never comes without work Dolls and Dukes!- and most importantly it's never achieved through shortcuts.
So I know what you're asking now; where are you going with this...Well its simple. I'm talking about something that's essential to every pinup girl, rockabilly queen, and greaser. A great palette. Or to say it plainer great skin. Look we all know this isn't just a look for us its a lifestyle therefore we're all conscious of how we present ourselves.
Great skin is one of the top ingredients on that list, if your skins not great nothing else is. (no matter how hard you try concealer doesn't hide but so much.) The sun tells all Dolls. So stick around I got some great tips, plus some D.I.Y.'s that are natural, won't break the bank and are guaranteed to have you looking great.

The Big not so Grand Reveal LoL

First and foremost great skin starts on the inside not on the out. Believe it or not but the state of your skin is actually a reflection of state of ones health. For example with good health the skin is bright , will have a youthful glow and clear.  All of the things we do want our skin to be.
However with bad health skin will generally appear dull, lifeless, prone to
breakouts and other stress related skin diseases. Now this isn't set in stone its a general statement you will find that these things will go both ways depending on the person. In the end it depends on the work you put in.
As I said you can't begin skincare with taking care of the body first, and water is one of the best things for that. if you're not already drinking it you should be drinking at least 8 glasses a day. Or more. If you're a person that suffers from dry skin, eczema (which i do), acne or anything like that; drinking an abundance of water will do wonders for. As well as detoxing. On the weekends take a lemon and squeeze it into a gallon of water. Then proceed to drink 2 gallons over the weekend, it will flush out your system from the inside out.
One thing you always learn starting from grade school is K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid well the same goes for your skin. An Anti-aging should be incorporated into your régime at all ages (if you expect to be a silver minx later, you need to have it together now), also complicated skin routines confuse the skin and often produce the opposite effect you'd been hoping for. God gave us everything we need to sustain ourselves found right within nature itself. The chemicals and byproducts that are put in our beauty products today are astounding, using natural products is both great for the environment but your pocket as well. You can find a subsequent replacement for each store brought product with essential oils, fruits, veggies and just about anything in your kitchen. You'll find yourself replacing a wealth of everyday items from moisturizers, to exfoliators, and even sunscreen. (if you have a allergy do not use the subsequent essential oil/ organic oil of the nut, fruit, etc..., replace the oil for something of your own preference.)

A good skincare regime should consist of an alternation between a gentle preferably creamy or soap cleanser and an exfoliant. I know you hear and read all the time about 'toners' but here's my opinion-you don't need them. A lot of times they actually do the reverse in what you think they're doing. D.I.Y. products are amazing and the best way to go. Its a great way to luxuriate; plus you'll be surprised how both cost efficient and what great gifts they make. So grab your paper and pen cause I'm sharing all of my favorite at home skincare recipes. Also I'm giving you,  your shopping list for all you're future at home skincare endeavors.

* I have and do use all recipes that I have shared. So no worries that I am just experimenting on you guys lol*

D.I.Y; MORNING AFTER ROSEWATER

Here's a quick DIY project to do with all those roses you've gotten for Mother's Day.

Rose Water:

  1. Gather the petals off of the roses, there's not a limit you can do this by eye. But you do need to get a good amount. ( you want petals only; no stems or leaves)
  2. Gently but thoroughly wash the petals making sure you rid them of any dirt or pesticides that may be on them (the finished product will be used on your skin, face, etc...so this step is extremely important. Don't skip it)
  3. Grab a large sauce pot place your rose petals inside, then pour in just enough water to cover the flower. You want to pour enough water to give yourself a good amount of rosewater however if you use too much water you'll be left with heavily diluted rosewater. (distilled water is preferred however filtered water is just as good)
  4. Put a lid on the pot and place it on simmer to low heat. You don't want it to boil at all, its important for it to not overheat.  (you never want the water to reach a boil so its important to watch it)
  5. Allow the water and petals to steam until the water has taken on the color of the petals and the petals are either translucent or clear. (rose oil will be floating on the surface. its great for a million uses you can scrape it off the surface bottle it future use)
  6. Strain the water into a container or bottle. To make it last longer store it in the refrigerator.

Uses:

  • Toner : Rosewater makes an amazing toner, it does amazing things for your skin including acting as an anti-inflammatory, a source of antioxidants, also helps increase skins elastin fibers just to name a few of its amazing qualities.
  • Hair treatment: after your shampoo and conditioner regimen try adding this to your routine. Add two tbl. rosewater to a cup of water. Pour it in a spray bottle and drench your locks with the solution.
  • Skin care: boost up your favorite lotions by adding a bit of your rosewater to them. You can also add your rosewater to your scrubs, and essential oils
  • Food: I know that one can take you back for a sec, but stay with me. It actually really adds a great additional level of flavor to your foods, salads, and drinks.

Let's Get Crafty

One thing is for certain if nothing else us Dolls love our shades, and this year there are some great new trends as well as some revivals of some of our old favorites giving us endless options to pic from. From the giant round eye sunglass to the sleek cat eye and everywhere in between there seems to be something for everyone this year. However just because trends change or the seasons change doesn’t mean that it’s required to hit the store and start shopping cause let’s be honest Dolls not all of us can afford it.

Well it just so happens that one of the best places to shop is right in your very own closet. You can even make a day of it with your girlfriends, have them all bring their stuff over. Have a few cups of wine and some snacks put on a fashion show for each other, make a game out of what’s in the keep pile, the charity pile then make a third pile for pieces you’d like to use to swap with each other. I’m telling you it’s a fun time. Once you’re done and you’re looking at your keep pile all by your lonesome be opened minded. Don’t limit yourself by being afraid to make changes to your clothing and accessories, especially when they are inexpensive pieces. This is your way to add your own personal flare and touch to your wardrobe, and show your own personal artistic expression. And before you start to say I’m not artistic stop right now I don’t want to hear it. Everyone has an inner artist and if you truly think you don’t then in the beginning keep your DIY projects simple and as your confidence grows you move on from there.

So here’s a great DIY for all levels its supper simple and I’ll take you through it. Remember you don’t have to do it exactly like I did this is just an idea. As I said go online check out the trends, Google style pics of your favorite classic Hollywood star, and also latest fashion news for inspiration and go from there. You may find yourself copying a DIY project or doing your own take on a designer pair of shades like me. But whatever you do remember to have fun…

Kate Spade Inspired Cat Eye Glasses

BEFORE:

Tools:

·         Glue (I recommend E6000 Crafters glue it is the best you will never have to worry about anything falling off. I use this brand all the time.)

·         Rhinestones, flowers, spikes, etc… (Whatever you choose to use. I purchased my box of flat back rhinestones from the jewelry section of Michaels)

·         Sunglasses (Duh!)

·         Trash bag (the glue can get messy and ruin things so you’ll want to lay the trash bags out on the surface of wherever you work)

So this is going to be really simple just three steps and that’s it. See I told you anyone could do it ;)

Step One:

First thing you want to do is go through your box of rhinestones and lay out your supplies. Whatever style of glasses you use (round, square, cat eye, etc…) you want to play around with the style and placement of your stones, flowers or spikes. Keep in mind the shape and size of the glasses, as well as how much rim space you have in which to place your decorations on. You don’t want to put anything to big or small, nor make it look too cluttered. So take this time to play around a bit before you commit.

Step Two:

Now that you have your design together and know what you’re doing it’s time to move over to your glue. Now you don’t need a lot this stuff is really potent, just a small drop on the back of your rhinestone and a drop on the frame where you are placing the item. Lightly press the rhinestone down into the frame and count for 30 seconds. Then repeat.

Step Three:

Place your completed sunglasses in a clear space and allow them to dry thoroughly. The packaging on the glue will tell you that it only takes about 3 hours to set however I highly recommend you give it at least 24 hrs. before wearing your newly revamped glasses.

Tips:

Ø  Keep the tube of E6000 horizontal even once you’re finished. That keeps it from clogging up.

Ø  Place tape everywhere on the frame that’s not going to be getting glued to prevent having to cleanup spills.

And that’s it, all that’s left is to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
